About the class
Linoleum block prints are a popular introduction to relief printmaking, but few people venture beyond the one-color print. Reduction printmaking is a process by which a single block of linoleum is carved, printed, carved, and then printed again, creating a multi-color print with perfect registration. In this five-week course, students will create their own two-color print editions using the Vandercook printing presses at Artists Book House. Students will leave the course with the ability to create their own linoleum prints with as many colors as they like. No prior experience necessary.
Week 1: Introduction / Image drafting
Week 2: Transferring image to block / carving
Week 3: Printing the first layer
Week 4: Carving the second layer
Week 5: Printing the second layer
