Accidental Writing: Writing For, About, and On Found Objects with Jenny Magnus
Sundays November 1st and 8th
10:00am - 1:00pm
$120.00
About this Class
This class will focus on serendipity: finding things to write about and on. Picking up a piece of strangely shaped wood, really looking at it, being inspired by it, and then writing directly on it; taking an old photograph as a starting place for writing, either autobiographical or fictional, and then finding a way to integrate the writing into the photo; making a painting, writing text, and then integrating the text into the painting. All these experiments and more will be the impetus of this class. Facilitator Jenny Magnus is keen to look at the things you find and inspire writing games to generate text that can be integrated into the objects or images.
Wander the streets of your neighborhood, looking for objects that "belong together", or dig around in that box of photos and knick knacks you have been ignoring for a long time. Gather as many of these things as you like, then bring them to class and arrange them in an aesthetically pleasing way. We will write for several minutes on each object and see whether you can create a piece of text that speaks to you about the object, the experience, or anywhere your creativity takes you. Then we will endeavor to put that text onto the object or image, somehow integrating it. Finding ways to marry text and image that are not just an accompaniment, but rather, an integral part of the work.
