About this Workshop
This would be an introduction to zines, with a brief history of zine-making and an explanation of the definition of zines. Then, students would be shown the most basic zine format as a start, 8-page fold-ups. Then, I would demo a variety of different zine formats, like accordion books, fliperello zines/infinity zines, and cascading/circular star books. Students would walk away with finished demo copies of the different zine formats and the ability to make those zines again.

About Kit Montgomery
Kit Montgomery is a Chicago-based cartoonist, fiber artist, and writer. They graduated with a Bachelors in Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2025, where they are currently earning their Master's in Fine Arts with a focus in Comics. In their practice, Kit's comics are ridiculous, largely character-centered, with some harkening back to the era of strip cartoon gag comics, and others push absurdism to the point of surreal narratives in simultaneously insane and/or mundane worlds. They focus on the intangible and completely unrealistic. They think comics are a medium that uniquely allows for the tangibly intangible.

Kit also runs a small press, Christopher Goblin Press, where their work has been featured in a number of comics anthologies. Kit's work has also been featured in The New England Quilt Museum’s Just Wanna Copyright for Makers show, the SAIC Fall 2025 Undergraduate BFA show, and some of their self-published comics are in The Library of Congress.
