Pulp Painting Experiments with Don Widmer

$205.00

Saturday, November 7
10:00 - 4:00pm
$180 + $25 Materials Fee = $205

About this Workshop
Participants will learn the technique of pulp painting, creating imagery within sheets of handmade paper using plant pulp as a medium. We will begin by learning basic sheet forming using a variety of pulps. Then we will design and cut our own stencils or use pre-cut forms provided by the instructor. Participants will learn how to pigment pulp to create a variety of colors. We will apply the colored pulp using different methods, including spray bottles, squirt bottles, or even brushes. Each person will create several sheets, which can be taken home to dry. Students are asked to bring a small rimmed cookie sheet to transport the pressed sheets back to their homes. Wear clothes that can get wet.

About the Instructor

He has exhibited throughout the Midwest, most recently at 33 Contemporary Gallery, Bridgeport Art Center, A+C Architects Studio, the Paper Discovery Center, Tall Grass Art Gallery, and Morgan Conservatory. His pulp paintings are included in the recent publication Radical Paper: Art and Invention with Colored Pulp, the first ever book on the subject. His work is represented in university, museum and library collections. Widmer received his MFA in Interdisciplinary Book and Paper Arts from Columbia College Chicago.
