A Goreyesque Gala
Characters designed by Landis Blair.
Once upon a time, a ragtag group of artists, writers, and lovers of books decided to found a nonprofit organization called “Artists Book House”. Eventually, after many unfortunate events, they happened upon a double storefront in the Old Irving Park neighborhood of Chicago, and decided to put down roots.
“We shall teach people how to write!” said the author who then swooned with exhaustion.
“We shall bind those words into books,” the bookbinder replied with a menacing glint in her eyes.
“We shall bring the power of the press to the people!” declared the printmaker from underneath his bushy mustache.
“We shall make a wet, sloppy mess!” the papermaker cried. She was eyed unapprovingly by the others.
“It shall have a library in which to house these artists' books for all posterity,” whispered the librarian.
“Better yet, there will be a shop selling our books, art supplies, and other curious objects,” said the bookseller.
“But how will you pay for it?” asked the chorus.
“We’ll host a Goreyesque Gala.”
